In the month of May we had lot of special pilgrimages. In the first weekend of May we had the pilgrimages of Protestants from Madagascar origin. In the second weekend of May 750 Catholic pilgrims of Madagascar came to La Salette to have their national pilgrimage. As usual there were many international groups and one group from Mumbai, India was also present. Fr. William Kaliyadan M.S came on May 12-13 to La Salette with a group from his parish in USA. In the last weekend of May the special pilgrimage was organized by the La Salette Sisters. It was the pilgrimage of the consecrated. Saturday May 3Oth Professor Thierry Magnin, rector of the Catholic University of Lyon gave a conference on the theme of “Remember with gratitude, Embrace the future with hope, live the present with passion”. The bishop of Grenoble Mgr. Guy de Kerimel addressed the pilgrims in the afternoon of Saturday May 30th on the theme of “Religious life a gift to the Church”. The month of May concluded with a week of festival with “Rose flowers”. Pilgrims offered every day flowers at the feet of the statue of Our Lady. The Sunday Mass on May 31 was presided by Mgr. Benoît RIVIERE, bishop of Autun, France. One of the famoun French singer Jean-Claude Gianada animated the vigil and mass of Pentecost and Trinity Sunday.
From our Rule of Life
“248 C The purpose of the Council of the Congregation is to broaden the Congregation's participation in its government and to develop a spirit of cooperation and co-responsibility. It is composed of the superior general, his assistants, the provincial and regional superiors or their representatives. The treasurer general, in view of his role and expertise, also attends as a consultant but does not participate in the voting.
249 cp The superior general convokes a meeting of this council every eighteen months, and more often if he judges it necessary.
a) to examine the spiritual and financial condition of the Congregation;
b) to deal with important matters;
c) to deliberate and vote on those matters reserved to it by the Rule or submitted to it by the superior general.”
We are gathered here outside of Luanda, Angola, for the Council of the Congregation – the first time the Council has been held in this country, and our Angolan brothers have welcomed us with joy. This Council comes as the present General Administration is half-way through its mandate; so it provides an opportunity to evaluate these past three years, as well as look forward to the next three. Important topics include the Congregation’s vocation efforts, Initial Formation, possible new mission(s) in Africa, and initial planning for the General Chapter of 2018. Everyone has finally arrived, except for Fr. Louis de Pontbriand, who was unable to get his documents in order in time. He joins us in prayer, as we hope you do as well.

La Salette Shrine Rectors’ Letter to the Congregation
Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette, France - April 19, 2015
First Ministry entrusted by Bishop Philibert de Bruillard to our Congregation
1- In the Year of Consecrated Life 13 Rectors of La Salette Shrines from France, Spain, Poland, Ukraine, Madagascar, Brazil, USA and the Philippines gathered at the International Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette, France. We would like to share our experiences and affirm the importance of Shrine ministry in the Congregation. This statement of commitment comes as we look forward to celebrating the 170th Anniversary of the Apparition of Our Lady of La Salette.
Responding to the appeal of Our Lady at La Salette, we affirm the ministry carried out in our Shrines as a core ministry of the Congregation, as it is central to our charism, identity and mission as La Salette Missionaries.
We seek to affirm the centrality of Shrines in the new evangelization of the people of God. We keep in mind the Biblical and Theological significance of Shrines as we respond to the growth in popular devotions and people’s desire to deepen their faith. We seek to provide sanctuaries of peace and hope for pilgrims by offering the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist, support groups for bereavement and recovery, spiritual direction, pastoral counseling and various retreats.
We seek to minister to the people at the ‘peripheries’* and offer welcome to all. We recognize that our Shrines are havens of hope for the poor who benefit from our charitable outreach.
We recognize and affirm the call of Our Lady to witness to justice, peace and reconciliation in our Shrines. We commit ourselves to promote respect and care for the environment. We treat our employees and volunteers with justice, thereby embodying the message we preach.
We are called to witness to our consecrated life passionately and diligently. Recognizing Christ as our source of happiness, we live out our charism joyfully so as to draw others to Christ and to the Church. Shrines can be a source of new vocations to the consecrated life by this faithful living out of Gospel values and through the ministry we offer to youth. We commit ourselves to promoting vocations to religious life and the priesthood at our Shrines.
We affirm the Christo-centric dimension to the ministries of the Shrine. It is the Word of God that is “studied, meditated, preached, lived and witnessed to”* in our Shrines. There is a “Marian style”* of ministering at the Shrines, where we care for everyone with a sense of justice, tenderness and compassion. In this task we work together as a community and collaborate with La Salette Laity, who are drawn to our charism and share our spirituality and ministry. We open ourselves to the pastoral conversion that will make our shrines “field hospitals,”* where the wounded come to be welcomed, listened to, understood, affirmed, evangelized, converted, renewed and ‘sent forth’ to be messengers of hope, justice, peace and reconciliation. We recognize that we are wounded healers gifted with the ministry of reconciliation for the salvation of the human person. We seek to make our shrines ‘islands of mercy* and reconciliation’ for the Church.
We call the Provincial Administrations to support us in this renewed understanding and appreciation of our ministry. Together we can respond to the call Mary entrusted to us at La Salette. In her tender mercy may she, Star of Evangelization and Mother of Reconciliation, continue to guide us as we seek to remain faithful.

“It is your life that must speak,a life which radiates the joy and beauty
of living the Gospel and of following Christ”
(Pope Francis, Letter to Religious)
Dear Brothers,
Happy and Holy Easter to you all!
May the light of the Resurrection illumine the mind, the heart and the choices of each of you in this year dedicated to the Consecrated Life.
If Lent, which has just concluded, has spurred us to look within ourselves to discover the deep and lasting reasons for our human and religious stories, Easter places within us the certainty that God never comes short of his promises that a new life is still possible and “that God always continues to offer himself as guide for our journey.”
The Year of Consecrated Life which we are observing invites us to thank and praise the Lord for the gift of religious life and to make it a “memory of faith.” This gives us roots of continuity and perseverance: this is a powerful identity allowing us to see ourselves as part of a tale, a history. Letting faith reinterpret in the journey that has been made is not limited to the big events, but also helps us reinterpret our personal history, helpfully dividing it into episodes” and helping us to discover along the journey of our life, the footsteps of God mixed in with our own. (cf. Keep Watch!, 5, CICLSAL) .
Let us continue to allow ourselves to be formed by the Word of God and the urgency and necessity of always putting the Person of Christ at the center of our life. These two elements can truly “be a guarantee of authenticity and quality for the future of our lives as consecrated men and women” (cf. Keep Watch!, 7, CICLSAL).
Easter calls us to become joyful witnesses of the person of Christ and of his Resurrection, and to be courageous proclaimers of his Word. All this is part of the DNA of our La Salette spirituality which we normally sum up in one word: reconciliaton.
“A witness of the Gospel – Pope Francis reminds us – is one who has met Jesus Christ, who has known him, or even better, who is known by Him - recognized, respected, loved, forgiven - and this encounter has touched him deeply, has filled him with a new joy, a new meaning for his life. And this radiates, communicates, transmits itself to others” (cf. Keep Watch!, 9, CICLSAL; original citation, Pope Francis, Discourse to the Apostolic Movement for the Blind [MAC] and the Little Mission for Deaf-mutes, Rome, March 29, 2014).
Has the encounter with Christ truly changed - or is it now changing - my life and yours? Can we too really say that we have risen with Christ?
Let us live intensely the joy of Easter and let us not be robbed of it by anyone.
This coming December 8, with the opening of the Holy Doors of the Basilica of Saint Peter, will mark the beginning of an extraordinary jubilee year dedicated to mercy on the 50th anniversary of the closing of Vatican II. On March 13, Pope Francis accompanied the announcement of this event with these words: “thus the whole Church in this Jubilee Year can find the joy of rediscovering and making fruitful the mercy of God with which we have been called to give consolation to every man and woman of our time.”
We La Salette Missionaries must surely rejoice with the Pope who reminds us that mercy is the essence and the heart of the Gospel. To wed reconciliation and mercy, then, in our everyday ministry will be the mission of each of us and of our Congregation, something we will try hard to realize during this coming Holy Year.
May the Virgin of La Salette, Mother of reconciliation, accompany us in this year of Consecrated Life to rediscover the important reasons for being religious in the midst of the people of God and for belonging to this Congregation. At the same time may she help us prepare our hearts and minds to welcome as a special gift the Holy Year of Mercy and to live it in our communities and parishes in the light of the message left to us at La Salette..
